The Shift-Out P-Series Insert Reader incorporates the MagTek triple-track Delta ASIC. Use of the Delta ASIC allows data recovery from all three tracks on driver licenses (AAMVA) and other magnetic cards. With a dedicated microcontroller, the designer can include the data recovery algorithm in the host’s application. This not only reduces the cost of the card reader but it also gives the designer more flexibility in how to process the magnetic information—perhaps for handling alternative recording formats that may not conform to ISO standards.
